Why I made this
I graduated from the University of Melbourne, and picking subjects every semester was a headache.
The details were spread over lots of Handbook pages, and prerequisites were easy to miss. Some subjects only ran once a year, so missing one meant waiting another year. Whether a subject was hard, you only found out by asking older students or digging through Reddit.
So I put it all in one place and built this site. It isn't from the uni; I made it in my own time. I hope it makes choosing subjects a bit easier, especially if you don't have anyone to ask.
What you can do here
- Look up a subject: When it runs, what you need first, what it leads to, how it's assessed (exam share, hurdles, class hours), a summary of public student reviews and ratings from students here.
- Plan your whole degree: Pick your degree and major (and a second major, minor or specialisation where allowed). The site lays out every semester and checks prerequisites, degree rules and how heavy each semester is. Drag subjects around, add a summer or winter term, share a link or print it.
- Plan A, Plan B: Keep up to five plans, each with its own major, strengths, interests and goal, and compare two side by side.
- Get suggestions: Subjects picked for your marks, strengths and interests, each with a reason. Pick a goal: protect your WAM, balanced, or stretch yourself.
- Majors: What each major, minor and specialisation needs, year by year, and what two majors share.
- Your marks and WAM: Add subjects you've finished to see your WAM, work out what you need on the rest for a target WAM, and save a backup file.
- UniMelb basics: Credit points, grades, WAM and when you can drop a subject. The stuff nobody explains in first year.
- Rate subjects you've done: It's anonymous. A subject's ratings show up once three people have rated it.
- Free, no ads, no sign-up. Works offline after your first visit, and you can add it to your phone's home screen.
- Your marks and plans are saved only on this device. Nothing is uploaded, so no one else can see them. Ratings are anonymous, and only averages are shown.
- This isn't an official University of Melbourne site, so some details may be wrong or out of date. Check the Handbook and My Course Planner before you enrol.
Where the information comes from
- Subject details (semesters, prerequisites, assessment, class hours) come from the official University of Melbourne Handbook. I go through and check them one by one.
- Ratings come from students using this site.
- Some subjects have a short summary of public reviews from other websites, with a link to the source. It has no score and isn't counted in the ratings here.
- Suggestions go by your interests, strengths and marks, and use ratings once there are enough. You only see subjects you can take that run soon.
